Pwllheli porc producers win UK Champion of Champions title

December 5, 2018

Ela and Huw Roberts of Oinc Oink farm near Pwllheli have had their Welsh Pedigree Pork and Welsh Vintage Cheddar creation crowned as the UK’s top sausage.

Out of 16 finalists from all over the UK in the competition, it was the Welsh entrants who were crowned victorious at the Butcher Shop of the Year Awards in London yesterday, making them the first Welsh winners of the accolade in many years.

Oinc Oink had previously won Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC)’s Put Your Best Sausage Forward competition held at the Royal Welsh Show earlier this year which allowed them to qualify for the Champion of Champion’s competition.

The sausages use Huw and Ela’s home reared pedigree pork along with a specially chosen Welsh vintage cheddar from South Caernarfon Creameries.

They were recently also involved in a special Porc Blasus ‘Posh Sausage Pop-Up’ held in Cardiff to promote quality porc from Wales.

Speaking on her achievement at the event, Ela Roberts commented:

“I’m extremely happy to be here in London for the Champion of Champions competition and to have won the competition with our Welsh Pedigree pork and vintage Welsh cheddar, Welsh produce at its best!”

HCC’s Market Development Officer Kirstie Jones commented:

“We are absolutely delighted that Huw and Ela’s sausage has been crowned the Champion of Champions and has been recognised for its high quality and local ingredients, innovation and great taste.”
