Method

These homemade sausage rolls are the perfect finger food to serve when entertaining guests, or a great addition to your next picnic.

  1. Heat the oven to 200’C, 180 fan
  2. Mix together the ingredients for the filling.
  3. Place the sheet of pastry on a lightly floured board.
  4. Sprinkle the dry stuffing mixture on the board and take handfuls of the sausage mixture and roll in the stuffing.
  5. Place the sausage meat down the pastry, off centre ensuring you have enough pastry to pull over the filling.
  6. Use a pastry brush and dipped in water or the beaten egg, brush down the edge and then lift the pastry over the sausage mixture, trim and press to seal the edge.
  7. Cut into individual sausage rolls and place on a baking tray.
  8. Brush the top and edges with the egg and sprinkle with nigella seeds.
  9. Place in the oven for 25 minutes or until golden and the centre is cooked
