We are an upland hill farm, mainly sheep - we sell mutton, hogget and lamb direct, suckler beef herd - beef boxes twice a year and finishing pigs - all year round Pork, Sausages, Bacon, Gammon joints and steaks.
Our pig herd:
We have a small herd of grower pigs ranging in age from 8 weeks to 12months old, our herd size varies through the year but we usually have between 12-26 pigs at any one time.
We buy in 8-12 week old Pedigree pigs, by buying pedigree we know we are helping to support the breed and their breeders, especially when they are listed as 'endangered': Large blacks and 'At risk': Welsh on the Rare Breed Survival Trust website.
Our piggies spend the first 4-8 weeks "indoors" in our open fronted barns getting used to their new home, us, and to change their diet from the soya pellet feed to our Pig Porridge - A feed grown and produced in the UK, with no soya in, this means it hasn't been shipped around the world and therefore reducing their carbon footprint.
After their initial time indoors they go out on to our fields, and hoover up acorns come the autumn. They spend roughly 1/2 to 3/4 of their lives outside, rooting up the fields with us.
Their diet is supplemented with waste fruit, veg and welsh bakery waste from the local garden centre, and silage - grass grown on our farm, that has been stored for winter feed, it smells like a sweet pickle mixture which the pigs absolutely love.
As we are an upland hill farm our fields are unsuitable for any animal that is heavy on the land, such as cattle and pigs during the wettest winter months. When the weather starts taking a turn for the worse to protect the soil structure and carbon sink, the animals' welfare and ours we bring all our piggies into the open fronted barns. We add rooting material to the barns, as well as extra straw to keep them cosy warm, and silage as forage.
Our pork pigs are around 7 months old when the go for slaughter, and our bacon pigs are around 9-12 months old, we don't 'push' them, they mature in their own time, giving them a great taste when on the plate. Our main breed the Duroc has marbling through the meat, which melts away whilst cooking, giving it that succulent moist taste.
You can buy our meat direct from us or we can post out in 3.5kgs pork boxes £30, in 1/4 cut to your requirements £90 for 11-12kg or in 1/2's £8/kg. We offer a free local delivery service direct to your door.

We have a waiting list for the more unusual products, such as pigs tails, cheeks, trotters, offal and heads.

We select which pigs are going to slaughter each time based on what orders we have received. That way, the pig has been specially chosen to meet your requirements, and no pig has been killed surplus to requirements reducing waste. This means that reserving your order is essential, to avoid disappointment.
We have fresh stock every 6 weeks:
2021 Pork dates - April, May, July, August, October, late November - Cured products come 2 weeks after the fresh products.
