The end of July is always an exciting time of year for us at Porc.Wales, and this time it’s going to be even more special. As 2019 marks the hundredth Royal Welsh Agricultural Show, we have plenty to look forward to at our stand and around the showground.
The Hybu Cig Cymru - Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) stand will be a hive of activity over the course of the week, with competitions, cookery and butchery demonstrations as well as samplings.
After last year’s successful launch, Put Your Best Sausage Forward (#PutYourBestSausageForward) will be returning to the BBQ on Tuesday morning. A shortlist of Porc.Wales members will battle it out to see who has the tastiest sausage in Wales. Scott Quinnell will be returning as celebrity judge, with the winner gaining entry to the UK and Ireland Champion of Champions competition at the Butcher Shop of the Year awards later this year.
Following that on Tuesday lunchtime, we will be offering up a cheeky take on the TV cook-off, with Ready, Steady, Porc (#ReadySteadyPorc). Scott Quinnell will be back, taking on Luke Thomas in a battle to produce the tastiest pork dish against the clock. Luke became the youngest head chef in the UK aged just 18, so the Welsh rugby legend will be up against it! Luke returns for a special cookery demonstration on Wednesday morning.
Porc.Wales continuously works to promote the pork industry in Wales. Kirstie Jones, Market Development Officer at Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC) - Meat Promotion Wales, explains, “Porc.Wales has a network of dedicated suppliers that proudly produce and distribute delicious, high-quality pork from Wales, all year round.
“Pigs in Wales are generally reared in smaller herds and for longer, which allows for a much bigger flavour. As well as that, the climate and landscape in Wales helps to provide a natural environment to produce high-quality pork.”
With over 200,000 guests expected over the course of the four days (including some extra special royal visitors on the opening day), it’s the crowning event in the British agricultural calendar. Not only a great event, the Royal Welsh provides a great platform for consumers to learn about the hard work that our independent producers and farmers put in to ensure quality, home-grown pork from Wales.
We look forward to seeing you at our stand (#M650) from Monday 22nd July. Use the #PorcWalesRWAS hashtag on social media with your photos and your photos could get featured on our page!
