We are well into 2019 and following New Year celebrations, resolutions (or lack of!) and Valentine’s Day related romance, latest market share figures show in the twelve weeks to 24th February, love really was in the air for pork!
In really exciting news this National Butchers Week, numbers show pork has grown in volume with 38,400 tonnes worth flying off the shelves – up 2.2% on 2018.
In fact, pork is one of the leading proteins in the fresh primary world!
“The growth for steaks and shoulder roasting joints are driving pork forward and, proving great British favourites like bangers and mash are still a table staple, 35,300 tonnes worth of sausages sold in this period – up 3.5% on last year”.
“The sectors seeing rising prices are those suffering the most. Pork bucks the trend with a strong roast performance driven by shoulder” Nathan added.
